Are Supplements Worth the Expense?

That is a question I have asked myself.  Now I know the answer!

1. It Depends -On the Food you Eat

The nutritional value of our food has been declining over time. In just a hundred years, the mineral content in common vegetables has declined by 70%. This graph illiterates it beautifully. (1)

I am concerned that diet alone will leave gaps for getting all the key amount of nutrients.

2. It Depends -On the Supplements You Take

There was a Landmark study done in 2005 that looked at the long term health benefits of multivitamins. A study is given the status of Landmark when the results report a breakthrough of great importance.

The Landmark Dietary Supplement Study I and II of 2005 looked at long-term multivitamin users. The control groups were no multivitamins, and multivitamins from other companies. The results were impressive. The study showed that people who used Shaklee supplements had better biomarkers of key health indicators compared to non-supplement users and supplement users from other companies. Interesting, when matching baseline biomarkers, the average age of the study subjects was 63 years, and for the control they had to go to an average age of 59! (2)

3. It Depends -On How Long You Want to Live a Healthy Life

Telomeres

The big idea here: Keeping telomeres from shortening may help you live a longer, healthier life. A study done in 2018 showed that, “long-term multiple supplant users had longer telomere lengths in their 50s, 60s and 70s as compared to the controls. The results suggest that heavy dietary supplementation may slow the shortening of telomeres that occurs with aging.” (3)

Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn is a Nobel Prize Winner in Medicine and considered the top authority on telomere science. Dr. Blackburn and proven that using Shaklee supplements long-term led to a 40% lower rate of telomere shortening across the adult age range compared to a healthy control group.

Now I Know!

Now I know the answer to the question “Are Supplements Worth the Expense”. Knowing that I can’t eat enough to get all the basic nutrients to maintain, but continue to rejuvenate, my decision is to put my money on the highest nutritional value multivitamin from Shaklee.
